  • CVR – VR – Added voice for Howl

The voice for Howl in this project is done by talenwinchester on Fiverr who could be reached via the following URL: https://www.fiverr.com/talenwinchester/be-the-male-voice-actor-in-your-project?context_referrer=logged_in_homepage&source=by_recently_viewed&ref_ctx_id=1e2736bd76c04d0dae5f3af0e1a38baa&context=recommendation&pckg_id=1&pos=1&context_alg=recently_viewed. • CVR – VR – Tutorials and Hints

For this update, I have added a short tutorial before the intro. This includes options to calibrate player’s height, sitting/standing mode and turn type (smooth/snap) as well as a short layout of the vr controllers and key binds. Hints of what to input are also added when controllers are in proximity with interactable objects. The…

  • CVR – VR – Doors Replacement and Intro

Doors that fit the style of the environment have been added to the placeholders. An intro sequence are also added to the experience. This would then be followed by a really short tutorial as to how the controls and navigations work. These are currently being implemented. The intro sequence could be seen here:

  • CVR – VR – Scene Transitions and Object Interactions

With this update, key object iteractions are completed. These are interactions that progress the experience (i.e giving the heart to the Howl’s monster). Scene transtitions are also done.

  • CVR – VR – PC Demo

Below is a very early demo of the VR experience. It shows the flow of the application and key scenes and obejcts.

  • CVR – VR – Cave Scene Completion

I have added a lot more details to the scene to portray the scene from the anime more accurately. This however introduces the problem of optimization as there are a lot of objects in the scene. I have decimated these assets to be somewhere between 20-50% of their original poly counts and have combined them…

  • CVR – VR – Cave Scene Level Design

The story has been rewritten to better fir the narrative and the timeframe given for this project. The player would start in a dark room with a door opening to the cave seen in the movie Howl’s Moving Caslte. This scene has just been set up with the cave being modelled from scratch in Blender.…

  • CVR – VR – Meadow Scene Level Design

This is the first version of designing the first scene of the VR experience. All vegetations are from the Stylized Environment asset. The terrain is made from scratch using the built-in Terrain component in Unity. Clouds and skybox are from the Stylized 3D Clouds asset. Post-processing is Unity’s built-in and the whole project is currently…

  • CVR – VR – Self-made 3D Models

To recreate a specific scene in Howl’s Moving Castle. I had to model 2 of the buildings in the scene from scratch. All textures were hand painted.

  • CVR – VR – First Prototype

URP is the pipeline chosen for this project as it allows for easier and more versatile shader and VFX creations using their builtin graphs. Assets from this prototype are from multiple assets from the Unity Asset Store. Some of the most major ones are Quibli and Fantasy Toon Trees. The character controller and underlying VR…
